Cannabis Cares: How the Cannabis Industry is Giving Back
The cannabis industry is known for many things.
It’s known as “the green rush”, tempting entrepreneurs of all walks of life to get in on the action. It’s known as the new exciting industry that’s creating economic growth for the city of Sacramento.
But there’s something else that the cannabis industry is responsible for that no one talks about. Which is how the cannabis industry is giving back to the community.
We started Cannabis Cares because we know that we have a unique responsibility in the city of Sacramento to impact cannabis culture and positively influence our local community.
We wanted to take all of our successes and authority and focus it on something to make the world a little better of a place for everyone.
So we teamed up with the Downtown Streets Team in an effort to help the Sacramento homeless community achieve lasting employment, housing, and a better quality of life.
The Downtown Streets Team employs volunteers who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, and provides them with resources to rebuild their lives. The volunteer team members are given opportunities to work collaboratively on city beautification projects. The team members who show dedication and leadership skills have the ability to rise up to assume leadership positions like team leads and managers. In return, team members receive a non-cash stipend to help cover their basic needs. The overarching goal is to transition team members into employment. This won’t just open the door to other opportunities, but it restores one of the most valuable aspects in all of our lives…hope.
We were so inspired by the Downtown Streets Team and their mission that we decided to collaborate on a special program that gives businesses in the cannabis industry an opportunity to give back and support their efforts.
The Cannabis Cares program gives dispensaries throughout Sacramento a chance to participate in our movement to help the homeless. We’ll provide “CannabisCares” stickers that go on products of the dispensary’s choice. Then when their customers decide to purchase a product or two with the sticker on it, a portion of the proceeds of those products will go toward the Downtown Streets Team.
Not only does this raise money for an important cause in Sacramento, but it raises awareness. To fight homelessness, we must come together with both innovation and compassion. We’re stronger together, and when our voice is united, we can do anything.
And that’s what the Sacramento Cannabis Industry is Association is all about. We’re a platform for cannabis leaders throughout our city. We want to make a difference not just within our industry, but within our community.
